The Haughton Bucs got off to a great start against the Huntington Raiders in a District 1-5A game Friday night at Prescott Field at Harold E. Harlan Stadium.
With 2:33 left in the first half, the Bucs led 21-7. But the rest of the game belonged to the Raiders.
Huntington scored five touchdowns before the Bucs scored again and won 42-28.
Huntington improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in district. Haughton dropped to 1-3 and 1-2.
After the Raiders scored on a their first possession, the Bucs scored three straight touchdowns.
Taylor Weathersby hit Ethan Johnson for 12 yards to tie the game.
Brandon Craig sprinted 64 yards late in the first quarter. He scored the Bucs’ third touchdown of the half on a 12-yard pass from Weathersby.
But Huntington scored a late touchdown to cut the Bucs’ lead to seven at the half.
Raiders quarterback Justin Whitaker threw touchdown passes to Dekavion Johnson and Caden Starks in the third quarter. The latter gave Huntington a 28-21 lead with 3:20 left in the third. It was Starks’ third TD catch on the night.
The Raiders added another touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Weathersby connected with DeCarlos Johns for Haughton’s final touchdown.
Weathersby completed 21-of-35 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions.
Johnson continued his stellar season with 13 catches for 173 yards.
Craig rushed for 128 yards on 17 carries and caught three passes for 38 yards.
Haughton visits Natchitoches Central Friday. The Chiefs (1-3, 0-3) lost to Parkway 69-40 Friday night.
