Bossier City Honors Fire Chief Brad Zagone Ahead of Retirement

The Bossier City Council meeting held Tuesday, December 16, 2025 was marked by a moment of gratitude and reflection as Mayor Tommy Chandler and the Bossier City Council honored Fire Chief Brad Zagone ahead of his upcoming retirement.

Chief Zagone, who will officially retire on Jan. 2, 2026, was recognized for more than 31 years of dedicated service with the Bossier City Fire Department, including nearly 14 years as fire chief. During the meeting, city leaders highlighted his long-standing commitment to public safety and his lasting impact on both the department and the community.

Under Zagone’s leadership, the Bossier City Fire Department maintained its prestigious Class 1 fire rating and earned recognition as one of the top fire departments in Louisiana. City officials noted that this achievement reflects not only operational excellence, but also Zagone’s emphasis on training, preparedness, and service to residents.

Speaking during the recognition, Zagone expressed heartfelt appreciation for those he served alongside throughout his career. “It means the world to me to work with the men and women of the Bossier City Fire Department this long,” he said. “The support of the community and the administration and council has given me—you really feel loved.”

Mayor Chandler thanked Chief Zagone for his unwavering dedication to the citizens of Bossier City, describing his career as one defined by professionalism, steady leadership, and a genuine commitment to protecting lives and property.

The council chambers held colleagues, city staff, and members of the public who attended to show their appreciation and offer well wishes. The recognition served as a formal thank you and farewell, celebrating a career that has helped shape the city’s fire service for decades.

Following his retirement, Zagone said he plans to spend more time with his family and enjoy hobbies such as fishing and traveling. While stepping away from daily operations, city leaders noted that his legacy of service and leadership will continue to influence the department well into the future.

The meeting took place at the Bossier City Council Chambers, where the city joined together to honor Chief Zagone’s years of service and wish him the very best in retirement.
