The Parkway Lady Panthers, Haughton Lady Bucs and Plain Dealing Lady Lions won first-round playoff games Thursday night.
In non-select Division I games, No. 11 seed Parkway defeated No. 22 Fontainebleau 46-24 at Parkway and No. 13 Haughton downed No. 20 Sam Houston 36-22 at Haughton.
Airline and Benton both fell to higher seeds in non-select Division I games, but both put up good fights.
The No. 24 seed Lady Vikings lost to 1-5A foe and No. 9 Natchitoches Central 52-49 in Natchitoches. The No. 27 Lady Tigers fell to No. 6 Salmen 47-39 at Salmen.
In non-select Division IV, the No. 19 Plain Dealing Lady Lions made the 415-mile trip to South Plaquemines worth it, defeating the No. 14 Lady Hurricanes 42-27.
In a non-select Division III first-round game Wednesday, No. 24 Bossier lost to No. 9 Iota 58-44 at Iota.
At Parkway, both teams had trouble scoring early. The Lady Panthers led 7-1 after the first quarter.
The offensive struggles continued in the second quarter but Parkway took a 16-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Fontainebleau (15-14) came out strong early in the third. The Lady Bulldogs scored the first six points, cutting the lead to three. Parkway ended the run with a basket but Fontainebleau scored to get within three again.
It was all Lady Panthers from there. Parkway started turning their stellar defensive play into offense. The Lady Panthers also hit some timely 3-pointers.
The result was a 17-4 run to end the quarter and a 36-19 lead. Parkway continued to pull away in the fourth.
Samahri Garrette hit two of her five 3-pointers in the third. She finished with 15 points. Jasmine Hendrix added 10. Kenadie Loche scored all seven of her points in the third.
Parkway (20-8) will visit Samen (24-3) in the second round.
At Haughton, the Lady Bucs got off to a good start and led 9-3 after the first quarter and 20-12 at the half.
Haughton continued its strong defensive play in the third quarter, limiting Sam Houston to just two points, and extended the lead to 28-14 going into the fourth.
Skylar Branch led Haughton with 17 points. Bella Hammond added eight.
Sam Houston closed its season 16-12.
Haughton (24-9) will travel to Monroe to face No. 4 Neville in the second round. The Lady Tigers (21-5) received a first-round bye.
At South Plaquemines, Jakayla Douglas poured in 29 points to lead the Lady Lions. Sanaa Lyles added eight.
Plain Dealing led 14-10.
The Lady Lions outscored the Lady Hurricanes 11-6 in the third. Lyles hit a 3-pointer and scored four points. Douglas scored 13 in the fourth as Plain Dealing secured the victory.
South Plaquemines closed it season 10-10.
Plain Dealing (16-14) will visit District 1-1A foe and No. 3 Arcadia in the second round. The Lady Hornets (22-6 received a first-round bye.
At Salmen, Cylah Grigsby, Elizabeth Perry, Ava Hammond and Kryshna Bostic all scored six points for Benton. Bostic also had six rebounds.
Lainey Lafitte had 11 rebounds, four points and two steals. Anyah Ashley chipped in five points and Bella Wiese had four.
Akayla Mcmooain led Salmen with 18.
Benton closed its season 17-17.
At Natchitoches Central, Airline trailed 39-28 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Vikings pulled off a big rally in the fourth and led 49-45 with about two minutes to play.
But the Lady Chiefs closed the game with a 7-0 run to win it.
Natchitoches Central (20-8) will visit No. 8 Destrehan in the second round.
Airline closed its season 13-13.
At Iota, Bossier finished its season 10-13. Iota improved to 18-6.
