High school baseball: Big seventh inning lifts Haughton to road win over Sterlington; Plain Dealing wins

The Haughton Buccaneers defeated Sterlington 7-1 in the first of a three-game series Thursday at Sterlington.

Elsewhere, Airline fell to Loyola 3-1 in 11 innings at Airline, and Plain Dealing defeated Bossier 15-3 at Plain Dealing.

At Sterlington, Haughton starter Seth Jorstad allowed two hits and struck out eight in five innings. Ashton Neighbors pitched the final two innings for the win.

The game was tied at 1 after six innings. The Bucs put six on the board in the top of the seventh. Maddox Williams’ triple brought home the go-ahead run. 

Seth Breen went 4-for-5 with three RBI. Jorstad had a double.

The Bucs (5-2) and Panthers (4-1) face off against Friday at 5 at Haughton.

At Airline, the Vikings scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on Ayden Hawn’s bases-loaded walk with two outs to send the game into extra innings tied at 1. 

Airline left two stranded in the ninth. Loyola scored two in the top of 11 without benefit of a hit. Brock Jordan led off the bottom of the inning with a single but the next three Vikings went down in order.

Jordan had two hits. Starting pitcher Jack Henry Smith had a double.

Smith allowed five hits, struck out three and walked three in six innings. Drew Robinson pitched the final five innings. He allowed one hit and one earned run.

Airline (2-4) faces Central of Baton Rouge Friday at 4 in the Trey Altick tournament hosted by Ouachita Christian.

At Plain Dealing, the Lions improved to 1-2. The Bearkats dropped to 1-4.
