High school softball: Whiteside’s two homers power Airline past Glenbrook

The Airline Lady Vikings defeated Glenbrook 4-1 Monday at Glenbrook.

Elsewhere, Haughton fell to D’Arbonne Woods at Haughton 11-2, Parkway lost to Zwolle 10-6 at Parkway and Providence Classical Academy fell to Lakeview 14-11 at PCA.

At Airline, Haley Whiteside hit two home runs and had three RBI.

She hit a two-run home run to give the Lady Vikings a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Ainsley Jones led off the inning with a double.

Whiteside’s leadoff home run in the fifth gave Airline a 4-0 lead.

Taylor Smith allowed five hits, struck out eight and walked four,

Airline closed the regular season 17-11. The Lady Vikings are No. 13 in the non-select Division I power rankings and will host a first-round playoff game.

District 1-1A champion Glenbrook dropped to 21-6.

At Haughton, Avery Smith and Charlee Prothro hit one home run each. 

Haughton (15-18) closes the regular season Tuesday at Minden at 5. The Lady Bucs are No. 25 in the non-select Division I rankings. The top 26 teams in the final rankings make the playoffs.

At Parkway, the Lady Panthers had 10 hits. Addison McCall went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. 

Izzy Rodriguez went 2-for-2. Zoey Horn went 2-for-3. Katie Giovengo hit a solo home run. She also struck out five in five innings.

Parkway (10-16) closes its season against Calvin Tuesday at 5. Zwolle improved to 16-8.

At PCA, the Lady Knights had nine hits. Sofia Flowers, Paige Cheney and Harper Milner had two apiece. Flowers had a triple.

Molly McGinty hit a two-run home run and finished with three RBI. Rhodes Mobley had two RBI. Sofia Guerra had a double and two RBI.

PCA (7-9) closes its season against Caddo Magnet Tuesday at 5:30 at home. Lakeview improved to 5-17.
