High school baseball: Airline falls in Game 1 of playoff series

The No. 17 seed Airline Vikings fell to No. 16 Mandeville 6-2 in Game 1 of their best-of-3 non-select Division I first-round playoff series Thursday in Mandeville.

Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at 6. Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m.

Mandeville scored thee runs in the bottom of the first. Airline scored one in the top of the fourth, but the Skippers put three more on the board in the fifth.

The Vikings scored a run in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk but a lineout ended the game.

Mandeville starter Quinn Haley limited Airline to three hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked four.

Airline’s Bo Carter had a double. Ayden Hawn and Zach Kolniak had one single each.

Mandeville had nine hits, including four doubles.

Airline dropped to 20-13. Mandeville improved to 24-8.

Haughton (20-14) visits Southside (20-12) in Game 1 of their first-round series Friday at 4. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. Game 2, if necessary, is scheduled for 2 p.m.
