The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
Board of Trustees at its June 2024 meeting granted Initial Accreditation to Northwest Louisiana
Technical Community College. Following two years of continued compliance and institutional
progress, the Board granted accreditation on June 11, 2026.
SACSCOC is a recognized accrediting body for degree granting higher education institutions in
the United States and around the world. With this achievement, NLTCC joins other SACSCOC
accredited institutions in North Louisiana, including Bossier Parish Community College,
Louisiana Delta Community College, Louisiana Tech University, Northwestern State University
of Louisiana, and the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Earning SACSCOC accreditation represents the culmination of a seven year effort that began in
2019 when NLTCC transitioned to a community college and submitted its initial application to
SACSCOC. Throughout the process, the college completed an extensive review of its
governance, academic programs, student support services, financial resources, strategic
planning, and institutional effectiveness to demonstrate compliance with the commission’s
rigorous standards. The accreditation process also included significant institutional planning and
restructuring, the development of new policies and procedures, comprehensive documentation
and reporting, and multiple campus visits and evaluations by SACSCOC representatives. The
successful outcome reflects years of dedication and collaboration across the college. Although
the SACSCOC accreditation process often takes close to a decade, NLTCC achieved
accreditation in approximately seven years.
NLTCC was initially accredited by the Council on Occupational Education in 1975, establishing a
longstanding foundation of quality and accountability. The addition of SACSCOC accreditation
will facilitate partnerships with other institutions, expand transfer opportunities for students, and
allow the college to develop new academic programs that support regional workforce and
educational needs.
“This is a historic milestone for Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College,” said
Chancellor Jayda Spillers. “Achieving SACSCOC accreditation reflects years of dedication and
hard work by our faculty, staff, administrators, and supporters. This accomplishment affirms the
quality of education we provide and positions NLTCC for continued growth, expanded
opportunities for our students, and a stronger impact on the communities we serve.”
As NLTCC enters this new chapter, the college looks forward to continued growth and evolution
as it serves students through high quality academic, technical, and workforce education
programs across the region.
