Bossier Parish Schools is proud to highlight Bossier Alive, an innovative program designed to empower students with disabilities through enriching learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom setting.
The Bossier Alive initiative aims to cultivate a holistic approach to education by incorporating various elements into the students’ curriculum. Aptly named ALIVE, which stands for Arts, Learning, Involvement, Vegetables, and Entrepreneurship, the program offers a multifaceted approach to learning that goes beyond textbooks and worksheets.
Through Bossier Alive, students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of arts, exploring their creativity and expressing themselves through various artistic mediums. From painting and drawing to music and drama, students are encouraged to unleash their talents and discover new passions.
In addition to artistic endeavors, Bossier Alive emphasizes the importance of hands-on learning experiences, such as nurturing a garden from seed to harvest. Students have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves, dig in the dirt, and witness the fruits of their labor as they watch their garden flourish. Not only does this teach valuable lessons about agriculture and sustainability, but it also instills a sense of pride and accomplishment in the students.
Furthermore, the program encourages students to get involved in their community through volunteering. By giving back to others, students learn the importance of compassion, empathy, and civic responsibility, while also making meaningful contributions to their community.
One of the highlights of the Bossier Alive initiative is the vibrant garden maintained by the students themselves. Bursting with an array of colorful vegetables and herbs, the garden serves as a tangible symbol of the students’ hard work and dedication. From planting seeds to harvesting produce, students actively participate in every step of the gardening process, gaining valuable skills and knowledge along the way.
