As Independence Day celebrations approach, the Bossier City Police Department is reminding residents to enjoy the holiday responsibly and follow the city’s fireworks regulations.

According to the department, fireworks are permitted within Bossier City from 10 a.m. on July 1 through 10 p.m. on July 5. However, it is illegal to discharge, ignite or explode fireworks between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. anywhere within the city limits.

Police are also encouraging residents to take extra precautions while using fireworks to help prevent injuries and accidental fires.

Safety recommendations include keeping a bucket of water or garden hose nearby when lighting fireworks, never pointing or throwing fireworks at people, animals or buildings, and ensuring young children are always supervised by an adult when fireworks are being used.

Officials also urge residents to be mindful of dry conditions, noting that even a small spark can quickly ignite grass or other combustible materials. Paying attention to surrounding homes, vehicles and other property can help prevent unnecessary accidents.

Anyone who witnesses the illegal use of fireworks or wishes to report a complaint is encouraged to contact the Bossier City Police Department at 318-741-8610.

The department extended its best wishes for a safe and happy Independence Day, encouraging everyone to celebrate responsibly while helping keep the community safe throughout the holiday weekend.
