The Bossier Parish Police Jury addressed a wide range of parish projects and community initiatives during its regular agenda meeting on May 20, approving facility improvements, supporting local programs and reviewing ongoing infrastructure work across the parish.

Among the major items discussed were upgrades at the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility aimed at improving operations and maintaining safety standards. Jurors approved the installation of new ball valves designed to improve water flow control throughout the facility as part of continued maintenance and modernization efforts.

The Jury also accepted the completion of renovation work at the Bossier Parish Library Administration Building, officially closing out the improvement project.

Additional funding was approved for the Benton Branch Library’s air conditioning system after jurors authorized an extra $200,000 for the project. Officials said the added funding will help ensure reliable climate control for both visitors and staff.

In other business, jurors approved a zoning request for House of Grace, a group home that assists young women transitioning out of foster care. The approval allows the organization to expand its operations and continue serving more residents in the future.

Jurors noted the positive role the program plays in helping young women develop stability, independence and life skills as they transition into adulthood.

The Jury also agreed to support an update to the Unified Development Code being led by the Bossier City/Parish Metropolitan Planning Commission. Officials said the update will help guide future development and growth throughout Bossier Parish, with project costs being shared among participating local government agencies.

Parish Engineer Eric Hudson provided jurors with updates on four road projects currently underway in Bossier Parish as part of continuing transportation and infrastructure improvements.

Jurors also received an update from the utilities department regarding a newly completed water well serving the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility. Officials reported the well produces approximately 235 gallons of water per minute and has allowed the parish to take the older well offline.

During the meeting, jurors adopted a resolution recognizing Friday, May 22, as National Maritime Day, acknowledging the maritime industry’s importance to both the national and local economy.

The Jury also recognized employees and jurors reaching service milestones ranging from five to 30 years, thanking them for their dedication and commitment to Bossier Parish.

The meeting reflected the Police Jury’s continued focus on infrastructure improvements, long-term planning and community support programs throughout the parish.
