The melodious sounds of violins echoed through Riverview Theatre as 6th-8th grade violin students from Greenacres Middle School, under the guidance of String Orchestra teacher Valerie Elliott, attended a special outing to the Shreveport Symphony.
The students, eager and enthusiastic, had the unique opportunity to participate actively in the Symphony Discovery Concert titled “The Orchestra Sings!” at the renowned venue. Armed with their instruments, the young violinists not only enjoyed the musical extravaganza but also had the chance to strum along during the performance.
During the concert, these budding musicians showcased their talents by playing along on two pieces, adding their own notes to the symphonic experience. Post-concert, the students were treated to an extraordinary backstage experience. They had the privilege of going on stage, immersing themselves in the perspective of a performer, and envisioning their own future performances from the seats they once occupied.
To further enhance their musical journey, the students engaged in a Q & A session with none other than Elizabeth O’Bannon, Concertmaster of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. This unique interaction allowed the students to gain insights into the world of professional musicians and fueled their aspirations for future accomplishments in the realm of classical music.
The Greenacres Middle School’s outing to the Shreveport Symphony not only enriched the students’ musical education but also provided them with an unforgettable experience that will undoubtedly resonate throughout their musical endeavors.
