The Parkway Lady Panthers began defense of their District 1-5A title in dramatic fashion Tuesday night at Parkway.
Parkway rallied from a 10-point deficit with about five minutes to play for a 59-58 victory over the Huntington Lady Raiders.
The victory was the Lady Panthers’ 55th straight in district play dating back to the 2020-21 season.
Parkway improved to 14-6 overall with its seventh straight victory. Huntington, the defending Division I select state champion, dropped to 12-6 and 1-1
Elsewhere in 1-5A, Airline routed Evangel Christian 63-7 at Airline, Benton fell to Captain Shreve 65-29 at Benton and Natchitoches Central defeated Byrd 50-22 at Byrd.
In a non-district game, Haughton’s 17-game winning streak came to an end with a 61-48 loss to 2025 non-select Division IV runner-up Arcadia at Arcadia.
Providence Classical Academy won its fourth straight, defeating Doyline 49-9 at Doyline.
Parkway’s long district winning streak looked very much in jeopardy after Huntington went on a 10-3 run to start the fourth quarter. The Lady Raiders led 54-44.
But the Lady Panthers got hot from behind the arc. Parkway hit four 3-pointers down the stretch.
Kenadie Loche’s 3 cut the deficit to 54-49 with 3:30 left. Samahiri Garrette’s 3 got the Lady Panthers within three at 55-52 with 3:00 left.
Zara Baker’s 3 tied it at 55 with 2:35 left.
Baker then hit another from long range to give Parkway a 58-55 lead.
Good defense and rebounding were also keys to the rally.
After Parkway took the lead, the Lady Raiders missed a shot in the lane and the Lady Panthers got the rebound.
Parkway called time out with 1:10 left. At that point, Huntington had committed only one foul in the quarter.
Unable to force a turnover, the Lady Raiders were forced to foul four more times. Parkway finally went to the line with 12.4 seconds left.
Khia Thomas made the first free throw and missed the second.
Huntington’s Kyndal Graham put up a 3 and was fouled with 2.7 seconds left. She made all three free throws.
The Lady Raiders forced a jump ball with 0.1 seconds left and took possession under their basket. They got the ball inbounds but didn’t get a shot off.
At Airline, Addison McDowell led the Lady Vikings (9-9, 2-0) with 22 points. Nia Williams added 13. Ke’Zyriah Sykes chipped in eight.
Evangel dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-2 in district.
At Benton, the Lady Tigers dropped to 16-12 overall and 0-2 in district. Captain Shreve improved to 14-8 and 2-0.
At Arcadia, Skylar Branch led Haughton (19-6) with 21 points. Bella Hammond and Sariah Shannon scored 10 each.
DeAsia Alexander paced Arcadia (15-6) with 31 points. She was 13-of-15 from the free throw line.
Alexander scored 12 in the first quarter as the Lady Hornets built a 16-10 lead. Branch hit two 3-pointers in the second and scored 13 points as the Lady Bucs rallied to tie it at 28 at the half.
Arcadia took control in the third with a 16-6 run behind Alexander’s nine points.
At Doyline, Rhodes Mobley and Caroline Cole led 10 Lady Knights who scored with eight points each.
Claire Morris scored seven. Emily Stephens hit a pair of 3-pointers. EllaGrace Richardson also scored six. Adilynn DeLoach and Alex Thaxton had five each.
PCA improved to 17-11.
