Sheriff Julian Whittington of the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office recently toured the Shriners Children’s Shreveport facility in anticipation of BSO’s upcoming “Kids Shoot for Youth Charities” program, which is scheduled for October 18, 2025.
During his visit, Sheriff Whittington had the privilege of meeting patients and staff, gaining firsthand insight into the outstanding work being done by Shriners to serve children in need. Shriners Children’s Shreveport, the first hospital in what would become the Shriners Children’s system, has been treating children since 1922.
Audrey Lester, a first grader at Legacy Elementary School in Bossier Parish, is currently undergoing treatment at the Shreveport facility. Audrey shared with the Sheriff her dream of one day becoming a law enforcement officer.
Sheriff Whittington was moved by Audrey’s determination and spirit. As a gesture of encouragement, he proudly presented her with a temporary Bossier Parish Sheriff’s badge, a symbol of support until the day she achieves her goal of wearing a real one. He commented, “Meeting Audrey was truly inspiring. Her courage and dream to one day serve in law enforcement reflect the very best of what our future holds. It was an honor to recognize her with a badge as she continues her journey.”
The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office will host the “Kids Shoot for Youth Charities” event on October 18, 2025, with proceeds benefiting Shriners Children’s Shreveport and other youth-focused organizations. The program reflects the Bossier Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing commitment to supporting children, families, and community partners throughout the region.
