E-mail Print PDF

The Music Program at Bossier Parish Community College will present a Guest Artist Series performance featuring the 2012-2013 Shreveport Opera Artists in Residence at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, in the BPCC Performing Arts Theatre, Building C, 6220 E. Texas Street, Bossier City.

This Guest Artist Series performance is free and open to the public.

The Shreveport Opera Artists in Residence (also known as SOX – Shreveport Opera Xpress) are Kelly Curtin, Soprano; Audrey Grieme, Mezzo-Soprano; Adrian Rosales, Baritone; and Jacob Watson, Tenor.  They will be accompanied by Irina Nedelcu, Pianist and Music Director for SOX.

The evening’s presentation will include opera repertoire selected from “Rigoletto” by Verdi; “Carmen” by Bizet; “The Barber of Seville” by Rossini; “The Magic Flute” by Mozart; and Broadway musical repertoire selected from “Les Misérables”, “Wicked”, and “Camelot.”

This “Operatizer” is meant to serve as a musical appetizer for those who enjoy opera as well as those who would like to know more about opera, the daily lives of opera performers, and some of the inner workings and history of the art form.

The Shreveport Opera Artists in Residence are the featured performers of the current Shreveport Opera season which opened with Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” last October, and continues with “I Pagliacci” in February, and “Rigoletto” in April 2013.  The Shreveport Opera performs in the Riverview Theatre.

“This is an excellent opportunity for our students, the College, and the community at large to experience professional level opera for free. We expect this collaboration of providing a free and truly cultural event to the public to continue for years to come,” says Dr. Michael D. Hart, Music Program Director at BPCC.
