Bossier City officially welcomed a new fire chief Monday morning as Blair Bockhaus was sworn into office during a ceremony held at the Fire and Police Training Academy on Jan. 5.

During the ceremony, Bockhaus was sworn in by the Honorable Judge Doug Stinson. Following the oath of office, Bockhaus was formally presented with the fire chief’s helmet and turnout gear, symbolizing his new leadership role within the department. The ceremony concluded with the traditional pinning of the fire chief, marking his official assumption of command.

Family members, city officials, firefighters, and members of the public gathered at the Fire Academy on Shed Road to witness the milestone.

Chandler also highlighted the department’s distinction as a Class 1 fire department—the highest rating a fire department can receive—saying it reflects the professionalism and dedication of the men and women who serve the community.

“I am confident that Chief Bockhaus will continue to lead the department with excellence and ensure our community receives the highest standard of emergency fire and EMS response,” Chandler said.

Chief Bockhaus expressed gratitude for the opportunity and the confidence placed in him by city leadership.

“I am excited and humbled for this opportunity, and I thank Mayor Chandler for his confidence in me,” Bockhaus said. “Leading the men and women of the Bossier City Fire Department is my greatest honor.”

The ceremony marked the beginning of Bockhaus’ tenure as fire chief, as he assumes responsibility for overseeing fire suppression, emergency medical services, and continued training for the department.
