With the Christmas season fast approaching, the Bossier City Lions Club gathered on Thursday, November 6, for a meeting filled with the spirit of giving and community. Members welcomed Julie Allen, Development Director for the Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana, who shared insights about the organization’s mission, upcoming holiday programs, and the importance of the iconic Red Kettle Campaign.

Allen spoke passionately about how the Salvation Army continues to serve those in need across Northwest Louisiana, particularly during the holiday season when financial struggles and loneliness can feel especially heavy for many families.

“Every donation dropped into a red kettle represents hope for someone who may not know where their next meal will come from, or how they’ll provide Christmas for their children,” Allen told the group.

The Red Kettle Campaign, one of the nation’s longest-running and most recognized charitable efforts, officially kicks off each November. Funds raised through the campaign support a wide range of local programs, including emergency shelter, food assistance, utility aid, and youth outreach. Last year alone, the Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana helped provide thousands of meals and nights of shelter to individuals and families in crisis.

Allen also highlighted the growing need for volunteers, noting that every bell ringer plays a vital role in spreading Christmas cheer while helping to keep the kettles full. “Volunteering just a few hours at a red kettle can make a big difference,” she said. “It’s not just about donations—it’s about sharing kindness, compassion, and joy with every person who walks by.”

Lions Club members, known for their own long-standing commitment to service, expressed their appreciation for the Salvation Army’s dedication to helping the less fortunate. Many reflected on how the two organizations share common values—faith, community, and generosity—especially during the season of giving.

As the meeting concluded, members were encouraged to support the Salvation Army’s holiday initiatives through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word about the red kettles that will soon appear outside stores across Bossier and Shreveport.

The gathering served as a heartfelt reminder of what the season is truly about—coming together as a community to lift others up.

The Bossier City Lions Club, a civic organization dedicated to community service, regularly invites local leaders, business professionals, and public officials to speak at its weekly meetings, fostering civic engagement and awareness of key regional issues.
