The Haughton Branch Library and the Pelican Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) came together on Monday, November 10, to host a special Veterans Reception honoring local veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. The event, held at noon at the Haughton Library, was filled with heartfelt gratitude, community fellowship, and patriotic pride.
The reception brought together veterans from various branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, along with their families, friends, and community members who gathered to show appreciation for those who have served the nation. Guests were welcomed with refreshments, homemade treats, and a warm spirit of fellowship that reflected the small-town heart of Haughton.
“Haughton’s always been a community that loves and supports its veterans,” said Mayor Hunter Timms. “These men and women are our neighbors, our friends, and our family. It means a lot to see everyone come together to say thank you and let them know how much we appreciate the sacrifices they’ve made for all of us.”
The Pelican Chapter DAR, known for its commitment to preserving American history and supporting veterans, helped organize the event as part of its ongoing mission to honor those who have defended the freedoms we enjoy today. Members of the chapter personally greeted veterans, listened to their stories, and presented tokens of appreciation in recognition of their service.
Library staff also played a key role in creating a welcoming space for reflection and remembrance. The Haughton Branch was adorned with American flags, patriotic décor, and displays celebrating local heroes—reminding everyone in attendance of the deep connections between military service, family, and community.
As the holiday season approaches and the nation prepares to observe Veterans Day, the timing of the event carried special meaning. It served as both a celebration and a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have worn the uniform—and the importance of never taking that service for granted.
For many in attendance, the reception was more than an event—it was a gesture of love and respect. Veterans shared stories of courage and camaraderie, while younger generations listened with admiration and gratitude.
Through this collaborative effort, the Haughton Library and Pelican Chapter DAR once again demonstrated how a community can come together to honor its heroes—not just with words, but with heartfelt appreciation.
