High school soccer: Haughton boys, Parkway girls drop heartbreakers in second round of playoffs

The Haughton Bucs and Parkway Lady Panthers lost heartbreakers in the second round of the playoffs Wednesday in Monroe.

Haughton, the No. 12 seed, fell to No. 5 Neville 2-1 in Division II boys.

Parkway, the No. 9 seed, lost to No. 8 Ouachita Parish 3-2 in Division II girls.

At Neville, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first half. Haughton tied it on a goal by Carlos Obregon with about four minutes left in the half.

Neville scored the go-ahead goal on a penalty kick from 12 yards out about seven minutes into the second half.

Haughton, which won a district championship for the first time in school history, finished 13-6-3. Neville improved to 13-3-3.

Head Coach Michael Marston said standouts included Chris Ontiveros and Josthin Ovando. He also praised Homero Villarreal and Obregon for their defensive play.

Carter Ebarb finished with 21 goals on the season and 75 for his career. Abdal Zidan had 27 goals this season and 54 for his career.

Parkway’s match was the final one for seniors Isabel Bright, Emma Walsh, Katelyn Icenhower, Aubrey Wallace, Emilie Morton, Elle Albarado, Makaela Hulion and Josslyn Simpson.

The Lady Panthers finished 14-8-2. They were the District 1-II runner-up.

Ouachita Parish improved to 17-9-2.
