Shreveport Regional Airport will receive more than $1.7 million in federal funding as part of a statewide $11.8 million package announced by U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, M.D. The funding, made available through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, will support critical safety and modernization projects across Louisiana.

For Shreveport, the grants target multiple areas of improvement. The largest portion, $1,031,325, is earmarked for the replacement of terminal chillers that have reached the end of their service life. An additional $387,577 is allocated for the design of more than 8,800 square feet of terminal reconstruction, including upgrades to the Federal Inspection Station. Another $339,153 will fund terminal expansion by 20,000 square feet, which includes new gates, upgraded passenger facilities, and the relocation of the Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT).

Combined, the Shreveport Airport Authority will see $1,757,955 in new federal funding for these projects.

Airport officials say the upgrades will strengthen the airport’s ability to meet growing passenger demand and ensure facilities remain modern and efficient. Shreveport Regional serves as the primary commercial airport for the Ark-La-Tex region, connecting travelers to major hubs such as Dallas, Atlanta, and Houston. The planned improvements are expected to enhance both safety and passenger experience, reinforcing Shreveport’s role as a regional gateway for business and leisure travel.

Statewide, the $11.8 million investment also supports projects at Lafayette Regional, New Orleans Lakefront, Baton Rouge Metropolitan, and several smaller airports. Senator Cassidy said the funds are aimed at modernizing infrastructure and preparing Louisiana airports to meet future transportation needs.
