In celebration of a new school year and in appreciation of educators in the local community, Optimum presented Apollo Elementary School in Bossier with a $4,090 donation to fund several STEM-related classroom projects through its partnership with the national education nonprofit DonorsChoose.
The donation, presented with a jumbo check during a special visit to the school, will support multiple teacher-led initiatives designed to enhance hands-on learning and foster creativity in the classroom. The funds will be used for projects that include a classroom printer, electric pencil sharpeners, flexible seating, headphones, educational games, and STEM learning materials.
Among the funded projects are:
- Ms. Cooper’s “From Digital to Tangible: Making Learning Real with a Printer!” – providing students the ability to see their digital creations come to life.
- Ms. Shihadeh’s “Organized and Motivated” – equipping the classroom with an electric pencil sharpener and a prize box to encourage positive reinforcement.
- Mrs. Northcutt’s “Game On!” – bringing learning-based games into the classroom to build problem-solving and teamwork skills.
- Mrs. Porter’s “Hearing Helps!” and “Paper. Plastic. STEM.” – supplying headphones and STEM lesson materials to enrich science and technology activities.
- Mrs. Cosby’s “Seats of Opportunity: Building Success in Every Position” – introducing flexible seating options to create a comfortable and engaging learning environment.
For the fifth consecutive year, Optimum has partnered with DonorsChoose to support teachers, students, and classrooms across its service areas. Through this initiative, Optimum has helped fund hundreds of classroom projects that provide access to critical tools, technologies, and experiences that empower student success.
“We are proud to continue investing in local schools like Apollo Elementary, where teachers are inspiring the next generation of innovators,” said an Optimum representative. “By funding these projects, we’re helping educators create meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that make a lasting impact.”
Apollo Elementary’s teachers expressed gratitude for the contribution, emphasizing how the funding will directly support classroom engagement and innovation.
The initiative highlights Optimum’s ongoing commitment to education and community partnership — ensuring students have the resources they need to learn, grow, and thrive in the 21st-century classroom.
