District 3 Councilman Cliff Smith hosted his first town hall meeting on Monday, August 4, at the Shady Grove Recreation Center, giving residents an opportunity to voice concerns and ask questions about local issues affecting their neighborhoods.

The meeting ran from 6:00 to 7:45 p.m. and was attended by members of the Bossier City Police Department, including Chief Daniel Haugen, as well as District 1 Councilman Brian Hammons and At-Large Councilman Chris Smith. While Mayor Tommy Chandler and At-Large Councilman Craton Cochran were not present, representatives from the mayor’s administration were in attendance to listen, answer questions and take notes on resident feedback.

During the session, residents raised a variety of issues, including concerns about speeding in neighborhoods, the need for an increased police presence in the Shady Grove area, road maintenance, and delays in trash pickup and enforcement of property standards.

Some citizens suggested the installation of license plate readers in residential areas to help track speeding vehicles and identify suspects involved in crimes. Others pointed to the need for regular mowing of ditches and better maintenance of sidewalks.

Smith emphasized the importance of open communication between city officials and constituents, reiterating his campaign promise to hold regular town hall meetings and remain accessible to the public.

The meeting marks the first town hall hosted by Smith since being sworn into office. He stated these events are to ensure residents’ voices are heard as he works to address their concerns throughout his term.
