The Bossier City Police Department would like to remind the community to be safe and
cautious this Halloween. With increased foot traffic in neighborhoods, especially after dark,
families and drivers are urged to take extra precautions.
To increase visibility for drivers, use a flashlight or glow stick and add reflective tape to
costumes and treat bags.
Check that costumes and accessories are flame-resistant and fit properly to prevent
falls. Face paint is a safer option than masks that might block vision or breathing.
Young children should trick-or-treat with adult supervision. Older children should stay
in groups and follow a planned, familiar route.
Choose well-lit neighborhoods with sidewalks. If sidewalks aren’t available, walk on the
far-left side of the road facing traffic.
Only accept treats at the door and never enter a stranger’s home or vehicle.
An adult should inspect all treats before they are eaten. Discard any items that are
unwrapped, open, or look suspicious.
Ensure children know their home address, a parent’s phone number, and how to call
911 in an emergency.
Be aware of increased foot traffic in residential areas. Drive slowly, especially in
residential areas, and avoid distractions like cell phones.
Be vigilant for children who might run into the street. Use extra caution when entering
or exiting driveways and keep headlights on during dusk and nighttime.
If you plan to drink at a party, use a designated driver or ride-share service.
Special notices
Louisiana law prohibits registered sex offenders from participating in Halloween
activities like trick-or-treating. You can find information on offenders in your area on
the Louisiana Sex Offender and Child Predator Registry at lsp.org.
Keep pets indoors during trick-or-treating hours to keep them safe and prevent anxiety.
Do not let pets eat Halloween candy, as ingredients like chocolate can be harmful.
We hope and pray Everyone has a Safe and Happy Halloween
