The Bossier City Lions Club gathered for its weekly luncheon on Thursday, November 13, where members welcomed two special guests from Barksdale Air Force Base to share insight into one of the base’s most critical operations: disaster recovery.

Captain Pifer and Master Sgt. Skelton addressed the club during the noon meeting, offering an informative look into the strategic planning, rapid response, and coordinated efforts that go into protecting both base personnel and the surrounding community during emergencies. Their presentation highlighted the vital role the Disaster Recovery Team plays in preparing for and responding to natural disasters, infrastructure failures, and unexpected crises.

Club members listened attentively as the speakers explained how their team works around the clock to ensure readiness—conducting training exercises, evaluating potential threats, and maintaining emergency systems that safeguard tens of thousands of military members, workers, and families connected to Barksdale.

They also discussed the importance of community partnerships during large-scale events. Local agencies, first responders, and organizations like the Lions Club play a key role in strengthening emergency response systems, they noted.

Lions Club members expressed appreciation for the presentation and for the service of the men and women stationed at Barksdale.

The Bossier City Lions Club meets weekly and regularly hosts speakers from across the parish to foster civic engagement, education, and connection within the community.
