The Commission for Women of Bossier City began the new year with a focus on financial literacy and empowerment during a mentoring session held Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Bonvenu Bank.

The session, titled Financial Empowerment and Reality Fair, was designed to provide mentees with practical knowledge and real-world skills to help them make informed financial decisions now and in the future. The event emphasized budgeting, financial planning, and understanding the responsibilities that come with adulthood.

As part of the program, participants were introduced to the RRCU Reality Fair, an interactive financial simulation widely used to help students prepare for life beyond high school. The Reality Fair places students in a mock real-world setting where they are assigned careers, salaries, and family situations, then tasked with managing expenses such as housing, transportation, utilities, food, insurance, and childcare. The hands-on experience helps students understand the consequences of financial choices and the importance of planning, saving, and living within their means.

Organizers said the Reality Fair aligns closely with the commission’s mission to mentor and empower young women by equipping them with tools that promote independence and long-term success. By exposing mentees to real-life financial scenarios, the program encourages critical thinking about career goals, education, and money management.

Hosting the session at Bonvenu Bank provided an appropriate setting for discussions centered on financial responsibility and economic well-being. Bonvenu Bank presented and guided participants through conversations about budgeting, credit, and financial confidence, while emphasizing the value of starting good financial habits early.

Commission leaders said the January session set the tone for 2026, reinforcing the importance of financial empowerment as a foundation for personal and professional growth. The Commission for Women of Bossier City plans to continue offering mentoring opportunities throughout the year focused on leadership, education, and life skills to help mentees prepare for their futures.
