The South Bossier Lunch Group gathered Wednesday, Jan. 14, bringing together business owners, community leaders, and residents for a midday meeting that featured updates on both local government leadership and professional sports development in Bossier City.
Prior to the featured speaker, Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler addressed attendees to announce his selection for the city’s next chief administrative officer. Chandler named Shane Cheatham as his choice to serve as Bossier City’s top appointed official, a role responsible for overseeing city finances, personnel, and daily operations. The appointment is pending approval by the Bossier City Council.
Cheatham, who has experience in municipal administration and public service, was introduced as a leader focused on efficient operations and continued growth for the city. Chandler said the position is critical to maintaining strong city management and supporting ongoing development efforts throughout Bossier City.
Following the announcement, the group heard from guest speaker Keith Carter, owner of the Louisiana Rouxgaroux arena football team. Carter provided updates on the organization as it prepares for what he described as an exciting upcoming season.
The luncheon gave attendees an opportunity to network while learning more about the Rouxgaroux’s growth, preparations, and vision for professional arena football in Bossier City.
“When you attend a Rouxgaroux football game, you get more than just a football game,” Carter told the group. “You get a sports entertainment experience.”
Under Carter’s leadership, the Louisiana Rouxgaroux have reestablished arena football in the Ark-La-Tex, bringing fast-paced National Arena League competition to Brookshire Grocery Arena beginning with the 2026 season. Formerly known as the Shreveport Rouxgaroux, the team transitioned to full family ownership in 2025 under Carter and his wife, Kim.
The team’s branding is rooted in Louisiana folklore, drawing inspiration from the mythical roux-garoux creature as a symbol of resilience, spirit, and regional pride. Carter emphasized that the organization’s mission extends beyond the field, with a strong focus on community engagement.
He highlighted the Rouxgaroux’s “Unity in the Community” initiative, which aims to make arena football accessible through partnerships with nonprofits and community groups, including discounted ticket opportunities.
The South Bossier Lunch Group was formed to unite men and women interested in staying informed, connected, and engaged in the growth and development of South Bossier and the greater Bossier City area. Its mission centers on providing a forum where business owners, stakeholders, and civic leaders can collaborate and discuss the community’s economic future.
Attendees said the luncheon continued the group’s tradition of fostering meaningful dialogue on local leadership, economic development, and community-focused initiatives. The South Bossier Lunch Group meets regularly and welcomes those interested in networking and civic engagement to attend future luncheons.
