Members of the Bossier City Lions Club welcomed Tricia Jowell, director of community relations for Volunteers of America, as the guest speaker at the club’s weekly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 22.

Jowell shared an overview of Volunteers of America’s mission and its impact on communities locally and nationwide. Founded in 1896, Volunteers of America is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families in need through programs focused on housing, healthcare, employment assistance, and support services for vulnerable populations, including veterans, seniors, and individuals experiencing homelessness.

During her presentation, Jowell highlighted the organization’s work in the region, emphasizing how community partnerships and volunteer support allow Volunteers of America to respond to critical needs and improve lives. She discussed ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening families, promoting stability, and providing resources that help individuals regain independence and dignity.

The Lions Club meeting provided members with an opportunity to learn more about the organization’s services and how local residents can become involved through volunteering or community support.

The Bossier City Lions Club regularly hosts guest speakers from nonprofit organizations, businesses, and government agencies as part of its mission to promote civic awareness and service. The club is also known for its own community outreach efforts, particularly its work helping individuals in need obtain eye exams and corrective eyewear.

Members thanked Jowell for her presentation and expressed appreciation for Volunteers of America’s continued service to those in need across the community.
