The Bossier Bearkats took a big early lead then pulled away late for a 49-20 victory over the Glenbrook Apaches Friday night in Minden.

The Bearkats are 2-0 for the first time since 2019. Glenbrook dropped to 1-1.

Sophomore quarterback Montrevell Lewis had another outstanding performance.

He completed 14-of-18 passes for 170 yards and  a touchdown. He also rushed for 66 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Lewis’ rushing total would have much higher had he not lost 84 yards chasing errant center snaps.

Jaylen James had catches for 92 yards. Jamez Cobb had three for 47 and a touchdown.

Rico Moise led the Bearkats on the ground with 66 yards on eight carries. He scored two touchdowns.

Bryan Tuyizere, a member of the soccer team, was 7-for-7 on extra-point kicks.

Bossier raced to a 21-0 lead. Glenbrook fought back to within seven, but the Bearkats scored a touchdown with 23 seconds left in the half.

The Apaches cut the lead to eight on a blocked punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Bossier answered with an 18-yard TD run by Lewis with 1:04 left in the quarter.

The Bearkats added two more touchdowns in the fourth. One was set up by an interception.

“Montrevell did a good job at quarterback again,” Smith said. “Defensively in the second half I thought we played a lot better against the run.

“Rico had a good night. He plays linebacker for us and also ran the ball quite a bit and scored a touchdown.”

Glenbrook Head Coach Greg Tibbitt was impressed with Lewis.

“We couldn’t tackle their quarterback in space,” he said. “That kid’s really good. He did a good job, busted a lot of big plays. He’s just a great athlete that they have.

“They did a really good job. They found what worked. We kept fighting and trying to find our way back in it just couldn’t get the stops and couldn’t get the ball when we needed to.”

Smith also had praise for Glenbrook.

“It was closer than the score seemed to be. We pulled away in the fourth,” he said. “Glenbrook did a good job. We were just lucky to get out of there.”

The only negatives for Bossier were three turnovers and the snap issues.

“We’ve got to fix those snap issues,” Smith said. “We’re not going to beat anybody left on our schedule with those mistakes. “We’ll go back to work Monday and see what we can do to fix it.”

Bossier visits Logansport Friday. The Tigers (0-2) lost to Loyola 47-12 Friday night.
