Community leaders and residents gathered Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Bossier City Civic Center for Mayor Tommy Chandler’s Prayer Lunch, an event centered on faith, unity, and support for those who serve the city.

The luncheon brought together local civic, academic, and business leaders for a shared meal and a time of prayer focused on the well-being of the Bossier City community. This month’s event carried special significance as it included a tribute to Bossier City Police Department SWAT team members and officers who were injured in the line of duty in September 2025.

Mayor Chandler paused during the program to recognize the officers who were shot while responding to a domestic violence incident at the Villagio apartment complex on Sept. 14, 2025. The incident shocked the community and highlighted the dangers faced daily by law enforcement officers. City officials said the officers’ actions that day reflected courage, professionalism, and a commitment to protecting others despite significant personal risk.

“This lunch is about coming together as a community,” Chandler said, noting the importance of prayer and support for first responders and their families. “We wanted to take time to honor those who were injured while protecting our citizens and to lift them up as they continue their recovery.”

The event’s guest speaker was Justin Haigler of The Simple Church, who shared a message focused on faith, resilience, and standing together during difficult times. His remarks emphasized gratitude for first responders and encouraged attendees to continue supporting those who serve the community.

Mayor Chandler’s Prayer Lunch is held regularly as a way to unite leaders and residents across Bossier City, fostering reflection, gratitude, and collective hope. Tuesday’s luncheon underscored that mission while offering a moment of recognition and prayer for officers injured in the line of duty and for the continued safety of the community they serve.
