Bossier Parish Community College marked the opening of its new Counseling Services Center on Wednesday, Jan. 21, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on the college’s Bossier City campus.
The ceremony took place at 12:30 p.m. on the first floor of the John R. McConathy Administration Building, also known as Building A, located at 6220 East Texas Street. Following the ribbon cutting, students, faculty, staff, and community guests were invited to tour the new facility throughout the afternoon.
The Counseling Services Center provides a dedicated space for students to meet privately with mental health professionals and access resources designed to support emotional well-being. A key feature of the new center is a sensory room, created to offer a calm and supportive environment for students coping with stress or anxiety. The room allows students to decompress through journaling, counseling-based activities, and quiet reflection while remaining on campus.
College officials said the center was developed in response to a growing demand for mental health services among students. The project was made possible through a Mental Health Grant awarded to institutions across the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, aimed at expanding and enhancing mental health support on campuses statewide.
BPCC administrators noted that the new Counseling Services Center reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to student health, wellness, and academic success, providing accessible resources that address both mental and emotional needs.
The opening of the center represents an important step in strengthening student support services at BPCC, ensuring students have access to care in a welcoming and dedicated space.
