Members of the Bossier City Lions Club gathered Thursday, March 19, for their regular weekly meeting, where they welcomed a presentation centered on preserving and understanding local history.
Guest speaker Kevin Flowers, history assistant with the Bossier Parish Libraries, addressed the group about the library system’s expanding role in documenting and sharing the heritage of Bossier Parish.
A key focus of Flowers’ presentation was the history of Shed Road, one of Bossier City’s well-traveled corridors. He walked attendees through the road’s origins, its development over time, and how it has evolved alongside the growth of the community. The discussion highlighted how transportation routes like Shed Road have played an important role in shaping residential and commercial expansion in the parish.
In addition to the roadway’s history, Flowers emphasized the broader mission of the library system, noting its growing collection of archives, photographs and records that help preserve the stories of Bossier Parish. He explained how residents can access these resources for research, genealogy and educational purposes.
Flowers also discussed the importance of community involvement in preserving history, encouraging residents to contribute documents, photographs and personal accounts to ensure local stories are not lost.
Lions Club members expressed appreciation for the presentation, noting that understanding the history of familiar places like Shed Road provides a deeper connection to the community’s past.
The program reflected the shared commitment of both the library system and the Lions Club to support initiatives that educate, inform and strengthen the Bossier community.
