Two Northwestern State University organizations, Demons for Recovery and United Against Fentanyl, invite community members, families and advocates to come together for the “Walk for Lives” event on Saturday, July 11, in Natchitoches. This event aims to raise awareness about the devastating impact of fentanyl and honor the lives affected by opioid-related tragedies. The walk will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Seven Oaks Stage on the NSU campus.
The Walk for Lives will serve as both a memorial and a call to action, bringing attention to the growing fentanyl crisis while promoting education, prevention and community support. Participants will walk in solidarity to remember loved ones lost and to stand united in the fight against substance misuse.
Walk for Lives is open to the public and encourages participation from individuals, families, local organizations, schools and healthcare professionals. Attendees can expect a supportive and reflective environment, with opportunities to connect with resources and advocate for change.
Event organizers emphasize the importance of community engagement in addressing this public health crisis and invite mental health facilities and rehab centers in Louisiana to host a booth at the resource fair. Participants are encouraged to bring signs or photos in memory of loved ones if they wish to.
“Demons for Recovery’s goal is to bring not just our students but the whole community together to promote education, prevention and hope. Every step taken during the Walk for Lives represents our commitment to reducing stigma, increasing awareness and supporting recovery,” said Sarah Ebarb, coordinator of Demons for Recovery.
